Looking ahead to Stratford Town - A preview with John Walker

Friday, 10 August 2018 07:49

The Southern League kick off this weekend looks very different from last season with St Neots in a division of 22 teams rather than 24 last season.   St Neots are also in a newly constituted Midland Division of the league and of the 21 teams they face there are no fewer than twelve different opponents to those last time around.   Some of those St Neots have faced before in either league or Cup competition but they start by playing against familiar faces in two senses.   On Saturday St Neots travel to Stratford and the home side are expected to include two former Saints.   Nabil Shariff who played 26 times for Matt Clements’ side last season scoring 13 goals has opted to move on to play for their Warwickshire hosts, and he is likely to form a strike partnership with Lewis Wilson – a St Neots player the previous season who scored three times in thirteen starts before moving to play for Cambridge City in the lower division.   St Neots seem likely to include up to three new players in their line-up but will include Finn Iron in goal back on loan from Cambridge United.   St Neots record against Stratford is disappointing – they have failed to beat them in six meetings to date with four draws and two defeats including a 1-1 draw last season where a debut goal by Dion Sembie-Ferris pulled them back level to return home with a point.   Stratford finished fifteenth in the league table last season – three places but nine points adrift of St Neots.
