The Comeback Kings do it again as the Saints beat the Ravens on penalties to reach the FA Cup Fourth qualifying Round

Tuesday, 09 October 2018 22:41

St Neots Town have reached the Fourth Qualifying Round tonight for the first time since 1966, coming back from 3-1 down in the second half to level the scores late on and carry the game through extra time and a successful penalty shootout.

Saints conceded the opening goal two minutes into injury time at the end of the first half, but CLAUDIO OFOSU levelled the scores shortly after the restart (50th minute) but the hosts then powered their way into what looked to be an unassailable 3-1 lead but with the clock ticking away, substitute GARY WHARTON was introduced into the action and he scored twice in the 89th and  93rd minutes to take us into extra time (his first goals since the 2015/16 season due to injury). There were to be no further goals in the extra periods despite chances for both teams so the tie was to be settled by the dreaded penalty shootout.

First up was to be TAYLOR PARR who successfully slotted home. Now was to be HARRY REYNOLD’s moment of glory as he saved the first spot kick for the hosts. From this point on, all the spot kicks were scored by both teams with DION SEMBIE- FERRIS, DYLAN WILLIAMS, NABIL SHARIFF finding the net and leaving skipper JOHNNY HERD to fire home the winning spot kick and spark wild scenes of celebration for both the players and the travelling support.

Saints now travel to National League North side, Alfreton Town, on Saturday October 20th – Kick Off 3.00pm
