Looking ahead to our trip to Redditch United

Thursday, 28 February 2019 11:58

UPCOMING MATCH PREVIEW

On Saturday Mark Abbott takes his side to Redditch to play on their 3G pitch, and part from Westwood Road, St Ives, the Trico Stadium in Redditch is St Neots’ most visited ground since their promotion to the Southern League eight years ago. Saturday will be the seventh visit to Redditch – six in the league and one in the league cup. Prior to last Saturday’s home victory over Needham Market, Redditch had gone five league matches without a victory and St Neots’ last visit had seen them return from Worcestershire with a point from a 2-2 draw with Tom Wood and Stefan Broccoli the scorers – the only goal scored for St Neots by the latter. St Neots had led 2-0 with both scorers having been drafted into the side that day but Redditch scored twice in the last eight minutes of the game and despite the home side recovery Redditch sacked their Manager immediately after the match. Our lads will travel with the confidence boost of their victory over Barwell last weekend, but Redditch are an experienced side containing players with Football League experience and it is never an easy place to go.

On Tuesday evening this week Redditch travelled to Banbury for one of only two midweek matches scheduled for this week and scored an added time equaliser to draw 1-1 at Banbury. This leaves them in seventeenth place in the table six points ahead of our lads.
