Saints began their 2014/15 pre-season schedule by entertaining last season's worthy Southern League Premier Division champions Hemel Hempstead Town at a very wet Cozy Stadium on Tuesday 8th July.

The final score line of 7-3, in favour of our visitors, was irrelevant, as this, being our first game, the evening was all about giving players valuable game time on the pitch.

Saints began the game with Lewis Hilliard (holiday), Lorenzo Ferrari (ill) and Assistant Manager Nathan Abbey (casting his eye over triallist keepers) not featuring but paraded a host of trialists and summer signings, including ex Chesham trio of Bruce Wilson, Chris Dillon and Drew Roberts and it was fitting that hit-man Roberts should score on his debut for the club, along with another recent signing Martell Powell, scoring  twice himself, in a match which physically was a great work out for both teams as three periods of forty five minutes were played. Overall, we played some very good football and even at this early stage, the players looked to be forging a good understanding with each other.

After just two sessions together prior to this game, things certainly do look promising and roll on Saturday’s visit of Aveley, which should be a traditional ninety minute affair and we’d like to take this opportunity to thank Hemel for coming over for the friendly and wish them the very best of luck as they begin life in The Conference South.
