Hunts FA CC Quarter-Final

Huntingdonshire Under 18 County Cup Quarter Final

ST NEOTS TOWN      5       WOODSTON DYNAMO     1

In a match that was in doubt right until the kick off due to heavy rain St Neots found it difficult to adapt their slick short passing game to a more direct style required by the conditions.   It was therefore well into the match before they began to dominate their Peterborough visitors and they ultimately ran our very comfortable winners to earn a semi-final home match with Ramsey Town.    As is normal there were several team changes due to injury and unavailability but the squad is multi talented and the team quickly settled to serve up some attractive football.

The opening goal arrived after ten minutes when skipper Harry Jenkins played a high ball forward to the head of Connor Belgrove and he laid the ball down for leading scorer Karl Safee to finish with a flourish.  In the next attack Safee could have doubled his tally but from a Jake Leonce corner he headed narrowly wide.   Woodston had little effective defence against the pace and creativity of the St Neots attack and after 24 minutes Leonce was again the provider for Karl Safee’s second goal of the match.   Safee then turned provider to set up Belgrove but visiting keeper Karl Broughton produced a good save but just before the break a rare defensive lapse saw a misunderstanding between Tousaint-Jackson and Karl Gibbons and Jake Pearson nipped in to pull a goal back for Woodston.

Unperturbed St Neots started the second half in dominant fashion with Davis Hartley directing operations from midfield.    Substitute Rukky Diejomadh was tormenting the visiting defence with his pace and trickery and on the hour he mesmerised several defenders before slamming home an unstoppable third goal for St Neots.   In the last ten minutes fitness really came into play as St Neots penned Woodston back in their own penalty area and six minutes from time Jake Leonce collected a Belgrove pass to make it 4-1 and then a tired looking goal kick by Broughton fell nicely for Karl Safee and he gratefully completed yet another hat trick to complete the scoring.
